Majority of home workers want hybrid return to the office

Moving forward, 85% of adults working from home because of pandemic restrictions want to use a hybrid approach to work, working from both their home and office.

A general trend emerged in the Office for National Statistics' findings, with a higher proportion of higher earners, compared to those on lower wages, saying they expected to adopt a hybrid approach to work.

This ranged from workers with an income of £50,000 or more, 93% of whom said they want a hybrid approach, compared to 62% of workers earning up to £10,000 who said the same.

Of the workers who said they want to continue working completely from home, the highest proportion came from workers making between £10,000 and £15,000, and £15,000 to £20,000, both at 8%.

Just 1% of workers earning £50,000 said they want to work completely from home going forward.

Business owners seem less certain about where their employees will be working, with 32% saying they were unsure what proportion of their workforce will return to their usual place of work.

Meanwhile, 38% said they expected over 75% of their staff to return to the workplace.
